Photo Facial

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) Photo facial procedures were designed to combat the effects of aging and damaged skin in a gentler way than CO2 and Erbium laser skin resurfacing but a faster and more efficient way then chemical peels and without the recovery time of an invasive procedure. This break through technology allows therapeutic light waves to safely penetrate through the skin without breaking the skin's surface subsequently producing the results of a laser without the pain and recovery process of a laser. Photofacials are full face, hands, neck and/or chest treatments utilizing strong pulses of light at wavelengths specifically selected to target melanin (pigment) from sun damage and superficial blood vessels and redness in the skin resulting in more even and improved skin tone. In addition, the mild injury created by these pulses stimulates collagen production which promotes improved skin texture and reduces pore size. Photo facials effectively treat Rosacea, blemishes, flushing, broken capillaries, sun damaged skin, and age spots. After only one treatment you will see results but results increase with the number of treatments. The result is more youthful looking skin.

Photo Facial Procedure

The Photo Facial treatment will vary from 15-45 minutes depending on the size of the area to be treated. A cool gel is applied to the skin prior to treatment. When the pulse of light is delivered, the sensation has been described as slight stinging or a rubber band snap followed by a mild sunburn. Pain is minimal; however, the patient has the option of using a topical anesthetic 30 minutes prior to the procedure for an additional cost. Please discuss this with the receptionist when making the appointment as application time is necessary. Patients may resume normal life immediately following the procedure. Multiple treatments are recommended at three week intervals for optimal results.

Post treatment

Immediately following the photo facial treatment, the skin may appear red and flushed and tiny capillaries may appear more visible. For a few hours to a couple days following the procedure the treated area may look and feel like a mild sunburn. Pigment in freckles, sun spots and age spots may darken as a result of the procedure which may take up to a week for the body to bring to the surface and exfoliate. The Vascular blemishes, rosacea, and redness can take up to a couple weeks for the body to absorb. Side effects are rare but in rare instances, temporary swelling, bruising and/or blistering can occur that may take hours to days to resolve.
