Microneedling and PRP Provo
Collagen Induction Therapy in Provo
Medical micro-needling is a powerful tool for skin rejuvenation. It is a method of inducing a controlled injury into the skin’s dermal and epidermal junction which induces growth factors, new collagen and elastin. This process causes much less damage to the epidermis than dermal rolling, and higher rates of success.
The Microneedling pen that we use at Xage Medical Spa is SkinPen Precision by Bellus Medical. SkinPen is the only advanced, medical grade micro needling product on the U.S. market with precise and safe needle depth adjustment. In addition, SkinPen Precision is the ONLY microneedling device in the market that has been cleared by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Medical micro-needling devices do not employ rollers: instead they feature a motor that rapidly applies a needle configuration in a stamping fashion to the skin. We can vary the speed and depth of penetration. It smooths fine scars, helps with discolorations, is moderately effective for skin tightening and is potent for adding luminosity. It helps—but does not remove—most wrinkles and it is also useful for pore size reduction. Micro-needling is safe to use in patients with any skin type.
Micro-needling is much more affordable than most laser treatments and has less “down-time”.
Treatment areas are cleansed and prepped with alcohol pads before the application of BLT numbing cream. Numbing usually takes 30 minutes. The anesthetic is removed and the skin is again prepped with alcohol pads. Treatment times depend on the area of the body being treated. The face takes about 45 minutes. Most patients like to add the neck and décolletage.
How many treatments?
We recommend a series of 3 sessions at six-week intervals to start, followed by annual maintenance visits for most patients. Acne scars may take up to 6-8 treatments, at six week intervals, to get the desired results.
What will I look like?
Immediately after your treatment your skin will look moderately red such as a light sun burn. Down time is limited to a day or two. Some Doctors advise their patients to use a soothing balm for the 1st day. We instruct patients to avoid applying creams, lotions, sunblock or make-up for at least 8 hours after the treatment. After that the patient can use a gentle cleanser and gentle moisturizer.
How long will It take to see results?
Most patients will see an immediate glow on their skin, but results continue to improve for up to six months. Individual results vary depending on individual skin health. Change is usually noted in a few days.
What is Platelet-Rich Plasma?
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is an autologous concentrated preparation of platelets and the associated growth factors in a small volume of plasma. Platelets are a natural source of a number of growth factors in their natural and biologically-determined ratios.
Platelet Growth Factors
Upon activation, platelets release 8 essential growth factors and signaling proteins. These growth factors are regeneration-promoting molecules, such as Platelet-Derived Growth Factor (PDGF), Transforming Growth Factor group (TGF), Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF), Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF), Fibroblast Growth Factor (FGF) and others. These molecules are shown to regulate the healing cascade, including inflammation and cell proliferation.
Because all ingredients in PRP are exclusively from the patient, there is virtually no risk of an allergic reaction or intolerance.
